The Answer Lady Loves Her Job
During the six years that Jessica Stanley, manager of the Godfrey Garden Center, has worked for the Market Basket, she has listened and learned. And now the staff calls her “The Answer Lady.”
In 2001, Jessica started working as a cashier at the Godfrey store before it grew into a large garden center. “I left Market Basket to go to cosmetology school and earned a degree,” says Jessica. “I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. Then I heard that Jason needed a manager for the garden center. I realized how much I missed the staff and customers, so I talked to him about the position.”
In March 2008, Jessica returned as manager. To expand her knowledge, Jessica listened closely to the contractors who came into the center when they explained the benefits of quality landscape brand names such as Romanstone, Keytstone and Versa-Lok. She learned about the uses of natural stone and brick. She read books on flowers, trees and shrubs. “I’ve absorbed what I can over the years, and I’m learning more and more every day,” says Jessica.
When new staff comes on board each season, Jessica can answer their questions without even thinking about it. Customers rely on her for answers too.
“I have an excellent staff and an excellent customer base. I’ve been a part of a business starting small and growing. Plus being a part of the family chain of locations is important,” says Jessica. “I’ll be glad to help my customers with any questions they may have.”
Jessica grew up in Brighton and now lives in Bethalto.
